Todd Reed Exclusive Shopping Event
Designer and raw diamond expert Todd Reed is in our store today.  We took some time to speak with this fascinating designer about his inspiration and his passions.  Check out pictures of the jewelry he brought with him below, and stop by our store today or tomorrow to see these incredible jewels in person!

GJ:  Where is your most favorite place to be?

Todd:  My favorite place to be is in my jewelry studio, completely alone.  Besides that, I love the ocean.  I love Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and anywhere along the Atlantic Ocean.  It's all about getting back to the elements.  When you're in the ocean, you are literally inside o fthe Earth.  It's so base and elemental.

GJ:  What would you do if you were not a jewelry designer?

Todd:  I'd be an artist.  That's what I consider myself anyways; I'm just a maker of things.  I maintain a full painting and sculpture studio.  Art is what gets me through the day.  Sometimes I can get distracted- by business or by relationships- but I always try to get back to the art; it is my first love.

GJ:  What are the three things you cannot live without?

Todd:  The first would be passion.  Second, the spirit of revelation, or constantly unearthing potential.  Third, a day without beauty is a lost day.  Beauty can mean different things to different people, but it's hard to live without beauty.

GJ:  If you were a color, what color would you be and why?

Todd:  I'm drawn to blues and greens.  They're colors of outward expression.  Blue is very vocal, while green is a very energetic love color.  I also tend to lean towards orange.  It's the color of self-love.

GJ:  If you could only work with one stone for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Todd:  Diamonds.  There's infinite possibilities with diamonds.  There's different textures and colors, from different regions all over the world.

Introducing... ARIK KASTAN

For Arik Kastan, love has only one color, and that color is rose.  Our newest designer, Arik works exclusively in rose gold and uses raw diamonds, labradorite, and other gemstones as accents.

We found Arik Kastan at a jewelry trade show, and we were immediately taken aback by his uniquely crafted jewels, embellished with hand-etched detailing.

Arik's love of rose gold stems from the Victorian era.  When asked why he loves rose gold, he responded "Jewelry from the Victorian time period is what first fueled my inspiration and got me making and designing jewelry.  I find rose gold to be much more romantic."

Arik's other inspirations include historic architecture, which is revealed through geometric shapes and hidden details.

Featured in Vogue magazine's "Guide to Exceptional Fine Jewelry" and worn by celebrities such as Maya Rudolph, Reese Witherspoon, and Cameron Diaz, Arik's enchanting jewels work with all styles.

Introducing... Todd Reed

We were first introduced to Todd Reed’s eponymous collection a few years ago at The Couture Show, a trade show presenting the work of the top jewelry designers in the world.  I was intrigued by his alternative style and passion for what some people might consider to be the “ugly ducklings” of the diamond family.  We are thrilled to carry Todd’s collection and proud that Greenwich Jewelers has evolved to the kind of boutique where his work will have a proper home.

The master of raw and natural diamonds, Todd dismisses the notion that diamonds must be white and polished to be beautiful.  He says, “there is so much more out there and the natural colors and textures are beautiful and wonderful every time.”  His love of all types of diamonds allows him to think outside of the box, combine unique elements, and create truly breathtaking pieces.

Todd handcrafts each piece in his Colorado studio; using 100% recycled precious metals.  This goes along with our belief in design sustainability, and Todd believes it is important “not to take advantage of Mother Earth,” and emphasizes that “the harmony in my process can definitely be felt in the jewelry.”

This unique harmony is what makes Todd’s jewelry truly special.  His pieces represent a true connection to nature, and serve as an intimate form of self-expression.  Todd says the woman who wears his jewelry “will buck tradition to get at what she truly loves,” and has a “have it cake and eat it too” kind of mentality.

Gorgeous diamonds?  Check.

Iconic designs?  Check.

Ethically produced?  Check.

We’ll take our cake and eat it, too.  Click here to check out Todd Reed’s amazing collection of one-of-a-kind rings and handcrafted jewelry pieces.

Designer Spotlight: Mila Gonzalez

A Spain Native Brings Us Cross-Cultural Designs

Here’s what I love about Mila Gonzalez:  no two pairs of her decadently jeweled and brightly colored earrings look alike.  While I admire some designers for creating and adhering to their ‘look’, what’s great about Mila’s signature style is that she doesn’t have one.  Her creativity is endless, and you could choose a pair of her gorgeous Swarovski crystal encrusted earrings for literally any occasion.

Christina and I originally discovered Mila at a show in Paris.  Her designs stood out in a sea of same-ness because they were so fun & wearable.  Upon a closer look and a conversation with Mila we learned that she looks to create designs and patterns that transcend cultures and represent different decades of fashion.  Designing from a studio in Spain, Mila Gonzalez is located relatively close to both Asia and Africa, and she uses this proximity to her advantage.  Her earrings reflect the seasons and the art of other cultures, from the colors she uses to the shapes she creates ranging from vintage-inspired chandeliers to post-modern elliptical hoops.

Handpicked pieces from Mila’s decadent Spring collection just recently arrived in our store, and I’m so excited to share them with you.  The pieces I chose encompass everything that I love about her designs:  color, creativity, and culture.  The perfect accessory for a spring fling or a summer vacation, you’ll revel in the opulent look (without the matching price!) and her cross-cultural designs can even help you blend in with the natives.

Click here to be transported to Asia, Africa, Spain, and beyond through Mila’s decadent designs.

Sparklingly yours,

Jennifer

Designer Spotlight: Sholdt

Modern Rings with a Timeless Feel

How can something be both “timeless” and “modern”?  This seems like a contradiction, especially in the world of jewelry.  However, Sholdt Designs has mastered the art of creating engagement rings and wedding bands that incorporate clean, architectural lines with classic details like milgrain borders and channel set diamonds.  I love how their designers infuse the collection with a contemporary edge by using unique elements like half-bezels and twisted, undulating bands.

Naturally their collection of exquisite men’s wedding bands is equally cool and artfully designed.  After all, who knows better what men want than a family of male designers?  Sholdt’s men’s wedding bands come in a variety of metals, incorporate clean, masculine details, and rounded edges to ensure a comfortable fit.

Like us, Sholdt Designs is a third generation family business, now owned and operated by Brian and Dustin Sholdt.  There’s something about a family business that makes it special; for Sholdt Designs, it’s the history and expertise that allows them to create fresh designs that feel like re-imagined classics.  Shopping for engagement rings and wedding bands is such a personal process; in today’s world of giant engagement ring retailers and designers, it’s nice to be able to put a face with a name.

They have won countless jewelry industry awards, and they still remain a small, family owned business, pouring their hearts and souls into every design.  As they say on their website, Sholdt rings represent “a perfect blend of artistry, beauty, and emotion.”  While purchasing bridal rings is certainly a personal process for our customers, designing them is personal for the Sholdt family , as well.

Sparklingly yours,

Jennifer
